In her paintings, Nora Kimball Mulheren comments on the unattainable ideals of perfection portrayed in the media. She begins with advertisements taken from fashion magazines and alters them to create wrinkles and creases that professionals would remove in the editing process. Her background in graphic design and illustration can be seen in this body of work along with a love/hate relationship with fashion.
Nora Mulheren received her BFA from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and an MFA candiadate at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia where she was selected for the painting department’s New York Workspace residency at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York City for fall of 2010. In addition to participating in juried competitions in California, Georgia, Rhode Island and Texas, the artist has exhibited her work at Gavlak Gallery in West Palm Beach, Florida; The Rymer Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee and just had a solo show this year at Beauregard Fine Art in Rumson, New Jersey.
