Designer Collections introduces Designer Raj Tolaram

What artists most inspire or influence you?
I'm moved by color and the play of color as much as I am moved by the striking contrast of black and white and monochromatic works... artists influence on my projects vary with the client and the project. I am personally drawn to works by Rauchenberg, Picasso and Chagall lithographs.

At what age did you know you were an artist? What was the first work of art you created?
1968 with the age of 31. I participated in a worldwide photo contest of the (then) German top magazine TWEN. The b+w portrait of a girl won 2nd Prize and was published in TWEN. The double page with my photograph won an award the same year by the prestigious ART Directors Club New York. As a result, I was invited to work for the magazine - which was the start of my career. Designer Collections presents Drew McGukin

Designer Collections Presents Designer Drew McGukin's "Top Ten Picks"

What was the first work of art you purchased?
Gosh... I've had so many collections - I've bought, sold and created so many pieces. In college, I collected vintage paintings of all sorts. How about my favorite? Years ago I bought a small beaded painting by Betsy Youngquist called "The Consequences of Unmindful Grazing". It's about 11 x 14 and compromised of 100s of tiny, sometimes shimmering beads. I love the expression, execution and message! I have the piece propped on my desk.

Joso Vidal: KiptonART Featured Artist

JOSO VIDAL: KiptonART Featured Artist

At what age did you know you were an artist?
During the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, I visited several exhibitions of Joan Miro and was so moved, I went home and started to paint. For more than one year I compulsively painted, unable to satisfy the need to express myself artistically through painting. Today, the need persists, but as I have become more accomplished, I am better able to channel my energy selectively.
