KiptonART Featured Artist Michael Thompson

KiptonART Featured Artist MICHAEL THOMPSON
At what age did you know you were an artist? What was the first work of art you created?
I enjoyed photography from an early age because I was constantly focused on the pictures in my grandmother's National Geographics. The images were so rich and just seemed to transport me away from everywhere else. I took art classes early on, but it wasn't until college 2001 that I took my first photography class, and now I am a huge photography nerd. I used to spend my Friday and Saturday nights in college printing in the black and white dark room until they would kick me out, and then once they gave me a key I would stay all night, sometimes missing other classes because I would fall asleep. It didn't bother me because I had found my passion. I still have the first picture I ever printed, and while they photo itself isn't exciting and I can definitely print much better, it is a nice memento of where I started out.
