Weekend Art Picks, New York

George Condo: Mental States

30 years of this great American painter's work is on display in a retrospective occupying two floors of the New Museum. George Condo, along with his contemporaries Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Julian Schnabel, reestablished the importance of painting int he 1980s. he combines the technical virtuosity of the old masters with an active imagination to create twisted characters and dizzying abstractions.
