Weekend Art Picks, New York

RED: The LEGO Brick Sculpture of Nathan Sawaya at The Agora Gallery
In RED, Nathan Sawaya adds to his repertoire of LEGO sculptures. In his exhibit at The Agora Gallery, the artists use the popular toys to create works that explore the nature of the human spirit. His work contrasts the child-like simplicity evoked by LEGOs with images of figures breaking and dissolving into space. This juxtaposition of the fantastical and the sometimes frightening  seeks to make audiences think about being "trapped and haunted by the human spirit" in his art.

RED runs through December 14th, 2010 at The Agora Gallery located at 530 West 25th Street, New York. A reception for the exhibition will be held on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010.
