Weekend Art Picks, New York

Atmosphere at the Tenri Cultural Institute of New York
Hiro Yamgata exhibits a series of paintings reflecting his emotions while traveling in Afghanistan. The stark landscape of the country is reflected in these eerie brushstrokes of black and white ink and rice paper on canvas. While working on these paintings, Yamagata thought of the Milky Way, snow-capped mountains, barren fields and overflowing rivers. These natural elements and the lonely whisper of wind blowing through his memories of Afghanistan serve as the inspiration for this exhibition.

Atmosphere runs through November 30th, 2010 at the Tenri Cultural Institute located at 43A West 13th Street, New York
