ART TALK with Tamarind Institute Director Marjorie Devon

Who is your favorite KiptonART Artist?
Willow Bader. I have to confess that it is because I am addicted to tango and the images are so evocative of Buenos Aires and of the dance.

What was the last exhibition you attended?
Francis Alys at the Tate Modern in London.

How would you describe the decor in your home?
Full of classic modern furniture and contemporary art. Mostly prints from Tamarind, of course.

Guggenheim's "Grey Area"

Julie Mehretu is gorgeous, and not yet forty. She is a gay Ethiopian Midwesterner who went to school in Senegal and Rhode Island, got famous in New York City and now practices in Berlin. As such, she is the over-achiever of Post-postmodernism if ever there was one. Her art, like her biography, is uncategorizable.

Read more in KiptonART Magazine about Julie Mehretu's current exhibition, "Grey Area" up now at the Guggenheim New York.

ART TALK with musician Isabel Rose

The KiptonART Foundation is teaming up with Isabel Rose to host the upcoming concert for her debut CD and to raise funds for the Foundation, which benefits the six KiptonART Rising 2011 Winners soon to be announced!
KiptonART interviewed Isabel about her work, music and art.

What was the last exhibition you attended?
The last exhibition I attended was Jeff Fagen's photography show in Dumbo. The images were amazing: reflections in puddles that made you rethink your position in space. Very imaginative and also deeply sensual as he uses rich colors and plays with texture beautifully.
Read more of Isabel Rose's Art Talk in KiptonART Magazine.
RSVP for her upcoming performance at RDV today!

Dan Schwartz, Whirling Reverie, 2007. Mixed Media, acrylic on canvas. 20"x20". $6,500

Artist Dan Schwartz takes a "lawless" approach to paint and his technique - no paint brush required. He places the emphasize on the process rather than the product. Schwartz believes, "The goal is to commune with a canvas so that the hand moves across it, without the mind directing it. That's where the magic happens."
Take a break this afternoon to check out Schwartz's experimentation with material and technique at 75 Wall Street. His work is currently showing in "My Secret Garden" up through the extended date, September 12th.
