Weekend Art Picks, New York
Eyebeam Gallery's latest group show addresses the recent explosion of participatory mechanisms across technology and media in an attempt to expose these models' inner conflicts and increase their transparency. The thirteen large-scale works on display offer a welcome complexity that draws even the most indolent gallery-goer into an active spectator-ship. This seemingly ironic call for audience participation establishes a firm distinction between collaboration and consensus, which Re:Group aims to extend into the current social, economic, and political archetypes around the work.
Re:Group: Beyond Models of Consensus is on view through August 7th at Eyebeam, 540 West 21st Street.
