Weekend Art Picks, Basel Edition
A flood of new buyers seamlessly with the usual suspects at Tuesday's Preview of Art 41 Basel, leaving many booths with sales in the seven-figure range just hours after they opened. The grande-dame of contemporary fairs spread out on its home turf, with five subdivisions in addition to the approximately 300 gallery booths. Art Statements, showcasing 26 young artists, and Art Public, 14 outdoor projects on Messeplatz, are familiar to seasoned fair-goers, along with the much-discussed Art Unlimited sector, featuring large-scale installations by Dan Flavin (David Zwirner), Ugo Rondinone (Barbara Gladstone), Zhang Huan (Pace), Michelangelo Pistoletto (Galleria Continua) and 52 others. For 2010 these sectors are joined by Art Feature, an exploration of curatorial practices, and Art Parcours, a three-might series of site-specific artworks and performances in the historic center of Basel by 10 artists--John Bock, Angela Bullock, Daniel Buren, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Aurelien Froment, Ryan Gander, Damian Ortega, Martha Rosler and Cerith Wyn Evans.
June 16th-20th, 11am-7pm Halls 1 and 2 of Messe Basel, Messeplatz, 4005 Basel
