Skin Fruit: Selections from the Dakis Joannou Collection, Curated by Jeff Koons
There is a lot of bodily functioning taking place in the hallowed halls of New York's fine art institutions this month. It's your last chance to have naked people surprising you around every corner at the MoMA, performing to a video background of Marina Abramovic herself chopping up her hands, bumping into walls and milking her teats. It was your first chance to attend TheGreatNude Invitational, a new art fair with a "Bodies Only" policy that included live nude sketch parties May 13th-16th. But best of all is "Skin Fruit" at the New Museum. This show has taken a great deal of flack from critics for aggrandizing a slection from the private collection of Greek billionaire Dakkis Joannou, who happens to sit on the board of the New Museum. Other criticism is that the show is purely sensationalistic-aiming to shock and disgust. Read more of Shannon Gulliver's review in KiptonART Magazine.
