Event Recap: Active Liberty Institute presents "IDENTITIES" ART PARTY

On Tuesday May 4th a panelist of art experts led a discussion addressing Cultural Identity in Contemporary Art.  Held at Phillips de Pury & Company, the evening titled "IDENTITIES" ART PARTY was hosted by Active Liberty Institute.  ALI is a nonprofit organization founded by Salman Kohkhar, tackling major issues in South East Asia by bridging the cultural divide between the region and global community.  In the globalized world the lack of personal connection with a homeland is endemic.  The gap between who we are an how we identify has pressured certain artists to strongly define themselves based on their nation.  For others, a freedom has emerged to explore customs and beliefs that are separate from their traditions.  The panel presented a group of contemporary works that generate a dialogue on these issues.
