Weekend Art Picks, New York

The Armory Show
The heavyweight of New York fairs started on a high note this year as dealers reported strong sales during Wednesday's Preview and a note of optimism rippled through the art world press... A group of noteworthy newcomers to the fair this year is comprised of LES galleries Eleven Rivington (936), Rental (741), and Lisa Cooley (706), each meeting with encouraging success in their respective Armory debuts.

SCOPEMike Weiss Gallery (D18) offers four large-scale sculpture works by Chinese artist Liao Yibai with an inventive take on the luxury market; at Gagliardi Art System (A13) two haunting multimedia installations by Daniel Glaser and Magdalena Kunz drew a steady stream of onlookers; and Munich-based Galerie von Braunbehrens (C10) reminded us of the many talented painters in the Contemporary market through the works of Jaime Sunico, Andy Denzler, and Kim Dong-Yoo.
