Just Kids: Patti Smith preforms at Robert Miller Gallery

This past Friday night I was at the Robert Miller Gallery for an evening with Patti Smith featuring all genre of her work. She took the stage and stood in front of a haunting, ethereal painting that framed Smith and the evening perfectly. It was an ideal back drop for the poetry she read, the songs she sang and the stories she read from her new book Just Kids, a memoir of her years with Robert Mapplethorpe. Those in attendance included: Vince Aletti of The New Yorker, Lisa Anastos, Betsy Baker, Clarissa Dalrymple, the Patti Smith Group drummer JD Dougherty, Tim Goossens of PS1, Deborah Hughes, fashion designer Phillip Lim, Jamie Johnson, artist Edward Mapplethorpe brother of Robert Mapplethorpe, Tarajia Morrell, Erica Orden of New York Magazine and Steven Sebring. -by Talia Eisenberg of Heist Gallery
