Malibu recently took over Hollywood with the unveiling of Sjobeck's (show-beck) Spring 2010 collection. KiptonART contributor and artist Mason McCulley sat down with JesseRay Vasquez, one fourth of the Sjobeck design team.
Tell me a little bit about the inspiration for the Spring '10 collection.
We try to use American themes in each of our collections. The Spring 2010 collection draws from the 40-50's era when the US was just getting out of the Great Depression and women started reconstructing their husbands shirts into feminine pieces/dresses because there was no extra money for fabric. We feel in our business that we are roughly experiencing that in the sense that we are just getting out of this economic turndown/recession. This season we focused on men's shirting for dresses and feminine pieces with bamboo.
