"Our ethos in showing contemporary artists is to show those whom we feel have a strong discourse with history." - Sukanya Rajaratnam
With this dedication to the gallery's historical platform, Sukanya and I discuss "Sam Francis: 1953 - 1959", the new and current exhibit at L&M Arts that focuses on a specific period in the career of the painter Sam Francis. "We have a reputation for doing historical, scholarly shows," Sukanya points out as she highlights the significance of the event. "No museum has ever done a show that focused on 1953-1959, a brief but brilliant span that we felt encapsulated the artist's best years. Needless to say, this presented us with a great opportunity."
